Roofing Accessories & Skylights

Owens Corning Proper Vents:

Proper vents assist in the constant flow of fresh air from soffit vent to attic. and cooling costs.

Recommended for finished attic spaces.

How Ventilation Works:

In a balanced system, wind blowing over the ridge and roof vents creates negative pressure that draws the warmer air out of the attic. Replacement air then enters through the undereave or soffit vents, bathes the underside of the roof, and exits at the ridge cap through ridge, roof or gable vents. Even without wind, the natural convection action of rising warm air maintains a continuous air flow along the underside of the roof. Ultimately, proper ventilation – along with attic insulation – helps maintain a comfortable temperature inside a home, increase energy efficiency, prevent moisture damage and contributes to the longevity of a roof.

Velux Skylights:

Energy Star:

One of the most straightforward ways to help meet energy codes as a builder or architect, while still designing bright, airy buildings, is to specify ENERGY STAR® certified products. Most VELUX residential products are ENERGY STAR® certified in all 50 states, which means they meet energy efficiency standards set by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In order to be ENERGY STAR® certified, fenestration products must have their U-factor, Visible Transmittance, and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient ratings independently tested and approved under the FenStarSM Certification Program of the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) to qualify.

By using ENERGY STAR® certified products, architects and builders can use skylights to bring much needed daylight and fresh air inside, allowing them to create more attractive buildings and more livable spaces while still meeting local energy codes. In warmer climates, there is great potential for lighting energy savings by using emerging control technologies like VELUX ACTIVE or more effective daylighting products like VELUX skylights with blinds and Sun Tunnel® Skylights.

Four Great Reasons to Replace Existing Skylights When You Replace A Roof

1. Save Money and Time:

During a skylight replacement, a roofer removes the shingles around the skylight to re-flash and seal the window to the roof deck or curb. Therefore, the most ideal, cost-efficient time to replace a skylight is when you re-roof and are removing all the old shingles to lay down new ones anyway.

2. Coincide Warranties

VELUX is the only skylight company to implement three layers of protection to give you peace of mind against leaks. Our industry-first No Leak Warranty* covers your skylight and its installation against leaks for 10 years. If you replace
when you re-roof, you can coincide your skylight warranty with your roof warranty for better overall protection.

3. Improved Energy Efficiency

VELUX continually develops and tests our skylights to ensure we maintain our high standard of design. We offer Clean, Quiet, & Safe Glass (with advanced LoE coating) that provides the best balance of daylight and heat control, improving the
energy efficiency of your window.

4. 30% Federal Tax Credit

When you Go Solar, you can save big! Go Solar with VELUX by opting for our solar-powered skylights or shades and your entire project – product and installation – becomes eligible for a 30% federal solar tax credit. Save big on both your home’s energy efficiency and in your pocket with VELUX solar-powered daylighting products.
