As an Andersen certified replacement window contractor, we see homeowners often unsure if they are in need of new windows. Lucky for you, there are plenty of different ways that you can tell what shape your windows are in. Check out your windows when you get a chance and see if they fall under any of these categories:
Damage, Warping Or Broken Windows: If your window has a minor problem, it can sometimes be easy to repair. But, replacing a window a window sash or frame that is damaged, warped or broken, is always recommended. Even if they are operable, that doesn’t mean that they’re going to get the job done.
Your Energy Bill Is Climbing & Your Windows Are Drafty: Poorly insulated and drafty windows can throw cold air into your house during the summer and warm air into your house during the winter. They can actually cause your energy bills to be 10% to 25% higher. So, be on the lookout for any drafts around your windows.
Appearance: This may be an obvious sign but if you honestly can’t stand your windows because they look like they were built in the 19th century then you should replace them. If they are that old, then there are sure to be other issues with them. With new, beautiful windows your house will look that much better and your house value will rise.
Noise: Depending on what part of town you live in, people find that old windows aren’t insulated from sound. They are always hearing what’s happening outside and it doesn’t provide much privacy. You’d be shocked by the level of noise reduction that new windows can provide!
